Trump: USS Abraham Lincoln family members not concerned about conditions

President Trump on Friday disputed the idea that family members of sailors and troops aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are concerned about the conditions on the aircraft carrier as scrutiny over the issue has intensified in recent days. 

“No, they’re not,” the president told reporters when asked about the news reports that have shed light on the deteriorating conditions on the Lincoln, one of the two U.S. aircraft carriers in the Middle East. 

“That ship is moving right now, or very shortly and is being replaced with another very similar ship,” Trump added, confirming that the U.S. is sending a new aircraft carrier, the USS George Washington, to the Middle East to replace the USS Lincoln.

The USS Lincoln deployed from San Diego in November and has been at sea uninterrupted for more than 240 days. 

When asked if the ship’s deployment has gone on for too long, the president said, “No. Not nearly long enough.”
