WHCA announces mentalist Oz Pearlman for correspondents’ dinner entertainer
Mentalist Oz Pearlman will serve as the entertainer for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, the WHCA announced on Thursday.
Pearlman, an Emmy Award winner and New York Times bestselling author, has made a name for himself in recent years with performances including magic tricks and mind reading for sports teams, A-list celebrities and other major global brands.
“I am thrilled to be the featured entertainer at this year’s WHCA dinner and join the ranks of Frank Sinatra, Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien, among many other legends,” Pearlman said in a statement issued through the WHCA. “This is a rare opportunity to gather so many accomplished, perceptive people in one place and invite them to share moments of wonder, surprise and awe.”
After a career on Wall Street, Oz was a breakout star on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and has appeared on top shows including “Monday Night Football,” “The Joe Rogan Experience” and “60 Minutes.”
The annual White House Correspondents’ dinner is slated for Saturday, April 25.
President Trump has not attended the event while in the Oval Office, breaking with years of precedent by sitting commanders in chief. He has been sharply critical of the event during his years in office, and was famously mocked by former President Obama during his remarks at the dinner in 2011.
Previous entertainers at the dinner have also included Colin Jost, Trever Noah and Roy Wood Jr.
Last year, the WHCA, which has clashed with Trump over his White House’s handling of the press pool, announced comedian Amber Ruffin as its emcee before abruptly dropping her a month later.
