Scott Pelley sparks backlash from right with New York Times interview on CBS, 60 Minutes 

Scott Pelley, the longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent who was fired by the network last week after criticizing its new leadership, is sparking scorn from conservatives over a new interview with the New York Times.  

During the wide-ranging interview, Pelley fought back tears as he described being fired by top bosses at CBS News, accused its corporate leadership of altering coverage to please President Trump and called for the ouster of the network’s top editor Bari Weiss.  

He also said he was surprised to be fired over his criticisms of Weiss, which were aired in a meeting at CBS and later leaked to the media.

“One of the reasons why trust in media is so low is because many legacy journalists are completely out of touch,” wrote Brendan Carr, the FCC chairman in one social media post. “You could not get away with that behavior at any run of the mill job. It is revealing to see how blind some are to that.” 

Pelley also took criticism from Republicans who argued he leaned left but didn’t realize it.

Rep. Brendan Gil (R-Texas) responded in one social media post that “many of America’s most prominent ‘journalists’ live in such a bubble, with no understanding of the country they cover, that they don’t even realize the nation even views them as biased to the left.”  

Pelley criticized Weiss in the Times interview for having “zero television experience” and for never having managed a large global operation like CBS News.
