Internet may be ‘developing antibodies’ to Charlie Kirk conspiracy theories: Turning Point USA spokesman

A spokesperson for Turning Point USA says he is encouraged by pushback against conspiracy theories about the assassination of the group’s founder Charlie Kirk last year that have gained traction.

“My biggest beef is with this Daily Mail headline,” Andrew Kolvet, a close friend of Kirk and media personality on the right, said during an appearance this week on Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation program.

“First of all, it was what I consider media malpractice the way that they presented it. And it felt like they were catering it to this cottage industry that’s exploded online about conspiracy theories after Charlie’s assassination. So I was pretty upset about the way they formulated that headline.”

The Monday headline from the Daily Mail that Kolvet referenced reads,“Bullet used to kill Charlie Kirk did NOT match rifle allegedly used by suspect Tyler Robinson, new court filing claims.” The Daily Mail is a tabloid known for publishing sensational and, at times, misleading headlines and photos.

Since Kirk’s death, some right-wing pundits and conservative influencers have argued the public is not being told the truth about the circumstances around his shooting death.

Some pointed to the new court filing and the Daily Mail’s coverage of it as evidence Robinson is innocent or Kirk’s death was part of a conspiracy.

“But there is a silver lining here,” Kolvet said of the discourse around Robinson’s case and Kirk’s assassination. “It’s almost like the internet is developing antibodies to some of the crazy stuff, because what we saw, the headline drops predictable, all the usual suspects rush in, take advantage of it, you know, take the story where it didn’t go. But then you saw something different. You actually saw some sane voices, some people pushing back. And by this morning, it felt like a lot of the zaniness had been muted.”

Tyler Robinson, the man charged in connection with Kirk’s death, recently requested a six-month delay for a court hearing scheduled in May to review evidence that suggests the bullet that killed Kirk did not match the rifle.
