FDA announces recall of cottage cheese sold at Walmart in 24 states

(WJW) – Cottage cheese sold at Walmart stores in 24 states is being recalled over concerns that liquid dairy ingredients used in the items may not be fully pasteurized, the company announced this week.

A recall alert published by the Food and Drug Administration said no illnesses had been reported in connection to the recalled cottage cheese as of Feb. 24, but consuming products that are not fully pasteurized can cause “significant health risk, especially to the young and elderly or immunocompromised individuals.”

The affected products were produced by Saputo Cheese USA Inc. (SUSA or Saputo) and sold under Walmart’s Great Value label.

The recall notice indicates the cottage cheese was distributed to Walmart stores and distribution centers in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Washington and Wyoming between Feb. 17-20, 2026.

Customers who purchased the affected products are advised to either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
