When will 2027’s Social Security COLA be announced?

(NEXSTAR) – October is an important month for Social Security beneficiaries, especially those already looking ahead to next year.

Not only will some receive two payments this month — all because November starts on a Sunday — but all recipients will learn just how much their benefits will change in 2027.

Every year, the Social Security Administration announces a cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, which is designed to help recipients of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) retain their buying power amid rising inflation. The COLA is usually released in conjunction with the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index (CPI).

More specifically, it rolls out alongside the CPI data for September, which is released in mid-October.
