Some Trader Joe’s shoppers may qualify for $100 payment in receipt settlement

(NEXSTAR) – Certain Trader Joe’s shoppers may qualify for payment from a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit that accused the retailer of potentially exposing credit and debit card data via its receipts.

The lawsuit, filed in California, claims that the receipts printed for a small number of transactions at some Trader Joe’s stores included the first six and last four digits of the shopper’s credit or debit card. While other significant data, like the middle digits, expiration date, and the customer’s information, were not included in the receipts, the lawsuit alleges this violates the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act.

Otherwise known as FACTA, the act is meant to”prevent and mitigate identity theft,” among other provisions. Trader Joe’s has denied any wrongdoing and notes........
