‘It is time’: Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles to resign at the end of June
CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles will step down at the end of June, according to a statement sent out on her behalf.
She has served in the role since 2017. She is the city’s first Black woman elected to this office.
The mayor announced Thursday morning that she would not seek reelection in November 2027 and will resign early on June 30, 2026.
“Serving as Charlotte’s mayor has been the honor of my life,” said Mayor Lyles. “I am proud of our record navigating various challenges, strengthening our economy, investing in our neighborhoods, and building a foundation for Charlotte’s continued success during a time of rapid growth. Now, it is time for the next phase of my life, to spend more time with my grandchildren and for someone new to lead us forward.”
