The future of America hangs in the balance

HALIFAX—The big question in American politics is whether the country will deal with United States President Donald Trump’s moral bankruptcy or be destroyed by it.

The latest atrocity committed by the malignant narcissist who is running America is the debacle on the grounds of the White House.  

This is a place where past presidents have met world leaders and made profound announcements affecting the planet. This is a place that belongs to the American people, and a place that is both cherished and honoured.

That said, this president has turned it into a gaudy monstrosity befitting a midway attraction at a tacky, travelling fair. On America’s 250th anniversary, does the country really want to showcase violence on the lawn of the White House?

The idea was so bad that many of the cage fighters refused to attend Trump’s staged punch-up. He has even mused that the UFC Octagon may be permanent, like the Eiffel Tower after the World’s Fair in France. 

The only musical act that remains—to his eternal shame—is Vanilla Ice. And his motive tells the story. The rapper said that he would play for anyone, including Russian President Putin and in Iran. Now, instead of a musical gala, the president is offering up a MAGA face-plant.  

While it would be comforting to believe that the American people and the U.S.........
