When Power Overrides Principle: ICC’s Double Standards And The Future Of Cricket

For years, there has been a quiet but persistent complaint within international cricket: that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is less an independent global regulator and more a rubber stamp for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Recent events have once again brought this uncomfortable reality into sharp focus, exposing a blatant double standard that threatens the credibility of world cricket itself.

At the heart of the controversy lies the issue of player security and match scheduling. India has, on multiple occasions, been allowed to reschedule matches or avoid playing in certain venues and countries, citing concerns about the safety and security of its players. These requests have rarely been challenged. Instead, they have been accommodated smoothly and swiftly by the ICC, often at considerable inconvenience to other teams and host nations. The message has been clear: when India speaks, the ICC listens.

Contrast this with the treatment meted out to Bangladesh.
