The only legitimate purpose of government is to secure and protect the natural rights of its own people, as our founders constantly pointed out. And while the United Kingdom predates the American Revolution, the fundamental obligation of government to protect its citizens is not exclusive to us.

One of the most basic protections people, but particularly women, should expect of their government is that their government will not import foreigners who want to harm them, or to be more specific, rape them.

But apparently, that’s an expectation too high for the United Kingdom. Thanks to its open-border policies, the U.K. now has to issue behavioral guidelines for so-called “asylum seekers,” explaining that women cannot be raped and that they have autonomy.

“You are in the United Kingdom (UK) because you are seeking asylum. We understand that coming to a new country can be difficult, and that laws and customs may be different from your home country,” the guide reads.

The language already exposes the problem with the United Kingdom’s asylum policy. Asylum cannot be based solely on a foreigner wanting to escape. Asylum also has to take into account what these foreigners will do to the people already living in the country. The U.K.’s first obligation is not to every third-world foreigner who wants refuge but rather to its people, which means prioritizing asylum seekers who are most likely to assimilate into U.K. society and not rape the locals.
