Two Weeks Before the Midterms, D.C. Sent Me Four Other People’s Ballots

The Washington, D.C., Board of Elections sent this Daily Signal writer the mail-in ballots of four strangers.
“It’s concerning that anyone could just take that, theoretically, and vote in my place,” one of those voters said.
This situation is no one-off. It’s happening nationwide.
Two weeks ahead of the 2026 November midterm elections, which could change the balance of power in Congress, the Washington, D.C., Board of Elections sent me four strangers’ mail-in ballots.
This is not a one-off. It is happening to Americans across the country. Early voting has already begun for the midterms, and millions of unsecured mail-in ballots could have already been sent and submitted.
The Daily Signal decided to investigate these four ballots further. By obtaining the D.C. voter registration list, we confirmed the identities of the rightful owners and contacted one of them, a former tenant of my current residence.
Just received more mail-in-ballots addressed to strangers with my address on them! This makes eight total this year, two different elections, all different names. Only 18 days until Election Day, I wonder if we will get more…Pass the SAVE America Act! Ps. What the heck am I… pic.twitter.com/zqfHTHUKqU— Virginia Grace McKinnon (@virginiagmck) October 16, 2026

D.C. Voter Says Mail Ballot Could Have Reached Wrong Hands
“It’s concerning that anyone could just take that, theoretically, and vote in my place,” said the D.C. voter who was granted anonymity to protect his privacy. The voter was registered as not affiliated with any party.
