Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni rose to prominence on a right-wing populist platform. But the Trump-aligned leader appears to have quietly reneged on the vision which saw her elected in the first place.
Meloni’s pitch was simple and appealing. Italy needed a defender of strong families, traditional values. Meloni was that defender. Italy needed a fighter to stand up to gender ideology and mass immigration. Meloni was that fighter. So then, what should we make of Meloni’s introduction of a policy permitting nearly 500,000 non-European Union migrants into Italy?
