The problems of our city centres and shopping thoroughfares can’t be left to councillors and other politicians who’ve never had to risk a penny of their own money to turn a profit and pay the wages of staff.

Their salaries and expenses are banked every month, no matter what, so risk is a word they can’t comprehend.

That slovenly anti-business attitude permeates the thinking of too many of those in public office, whose earning power and lifestyle are guaranteed by the taxpayer.

But if there’s to be any hope of competing with online shopping, where we can order goods and services from the comfort of our living rooms, without venturing into town, then those in power have to listen and act upon the advice and knowledge of the businesspeople who invest in our centres and high streets, risking their own hard-earned money.

Currently, there’s a debate over plans to build student housing on the site of the Keiller Centre, and also major concerns over the ghost town which Lochee High Street currently resembles.
