I wrote about my experience of living on a foodbank parcel for a week.
My article, published in The Courier on Saturday, got a lot of attention. Much more than I expected.
Foodbanks clearly touch a nerve with people. The mere fact that they exist in one of the world’s wealthiest countries.
For my experiment, my local foodbank gave me a shopping list for a parcel to last five days for a single person.
Many of you will have donated tins, packets and jars to foodbanks as I have done, and I was curious to learn what the parcels these go into are like.
Writing my foodbank article was a superficial exercise. Living on a foodbank parcel for a few days is never going to feel like actually relying on a foodbank.
But I wanted to help draw attention to foodbanks and remind people who can why we should support them.
It was a tough week, but not for the reasons I anticipated.
