For most people, grief slowly fades into memory. But for Marathi actor Sayaji Shinde, it took root in the soil of Maharashtra and grew into forests.

Years ago, when his mother was in her final moments, he stood beside her and made a promise. He told her he would plant 5,000 native trees in her memory. At the time, it was simply a son trying to hold on to love even as he prepared to let go.
