A sunflower does not really demand much from you. It just needs a bit of soil, consistent sunlight and a corner where it can grow at its own pace. In return, it slowly turns an ordinary space into something brighter without making a fuss about it. Even a small pot on a balcony or near a window is enough for it to settle in and do what it does best.

If you are trying this for the first time, it helps to think of it less as a task and more as something you check in on from time to time. The plant does most of the work on its own.

1. Pick a pot that gives the roots space

Go for a pot that is deep rather than wide. Around 12 to 16 inches is usually enough for most balcony varieties. What really matters is drainage. The water should be able to leave easily, so the roots do not sit in damp soil. Clay pots tend to work........
