Possible arson fire ravages Bay Area high school football team's new $3M field
The Mount Diablo High School football field in Concord, Calif., was destroyed by a fire just days before the football team’s first game of the season.
With the start of the football season just days away, Mount Diablo High School is scrambling to come up with a solution after a fire ravaged the Concord school’s new turf field last weekend.
The Concord Police Department and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District were called to the scene early Sunday morning, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Officer Lauren Ono confirmed in an email to SFGATE, and put out a fire that was “kept to a 20x20 yard area” near the midfield logo.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the Concord Police Department said in a news release Tuesday that the fire is being examined by arson investigators.
