Gilberts: A staycation idea in Thamesville
A couple of weeks ago I gave you some disaster-themed places to go in the area, as a sort of “disaster staycation” tour.
Well, the price of gas isn’t getting any better, so we decided to tell you about a way you could take a day off right here in Chatham-Kent.
The Thamesville Old Town Hall Museum recently partnered with the Chatham-Kent Public Library’s Thamesville branch to produce a self-guided walking tour.

Created by librarian Lindsay Hobbs, with the help of volunteer curator Chris Crawford, the booklet is called Then and Now: Stories of Historic Thamesville.
The tour has 11 stops and it takes you along the main street, called London Road or Highway 2 and on the blocks behind, on both sides. It takes about 45 minutes to complete this tour.
Each stop has a picture in the brochure showing what the site looked like in the past. It’s a very clever idea and Lindsay Hobbs is to be congratulated for putting it together.
