U.S. economy grew 2% in early 2026, bouncing back from a sluggish end to last year

The rebound followed a 0.5% expansion in late 2025, when a federal government shutdown weighed on output

The U.S. economy expanded at an annualized rate of 2.0% in the first quarter of 2026, rebounding from a 0.5% pace in the prior quarter, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said in an advance estimate.
