Could the Diddy Case Popularize Cuckoldry?

Nothing enthralls the public quite like a salacious court case involving high-profile people, like OJ Simpson, Woody Allen, Johnny Depp, and now, P. Diddy. While there are many aspects to his case that are worth analyzing, this post will be focusing on the idea that the case might serve as a popularizing moment for cuckoldry.

Several terms from the field of behavior change may be relevant when considering whether something like the Diddy case can contribute to influencing others towards cuckoldry. Two particular terms from leaders within the academic practice of social and behavioral change overlap considerably, one from Cristina Bicchieri—"trendsetter"—and one from Cass Sunstein—“norm entrepreneur.” Central to both is the idea of an individual, typically amplified through media and often occupying influential status, practicing a new or modified norm and associated behavior. Trendsetters and norm entrepreneurs can contribute to social change through visibly and vocally popularizing an attitude or act through their own conduct.

While Diddy did not seem to set out to popularize the practice, it may be that the attention focus on this........
