The Challenges of Divorce

Find a therapist to heal from a divorce

Divorce is a major life event that brings not only transitions and grief but its own challenges.

There may be changes in your lifestyle, your relationship with your children, a loss of friends, and anxiety.

But with this transition is also an opportunity to set your own goals; create the new chapter that you desire.

Psychologically, divorce is the closing of one chapter of your life and the beginning of a new one. But the shift is never smooth. No matter the circumstances and reasons for the divorce, there is always an undertone of grief and loss, simply because your attachment to someone, whether it be good or bad, healthy or unhealthy, was still a psychological attachment. And when it is severed, grief is a psychological byproduct.

But this transition to a new chapter brings even more challenges. Knowing what to expect reduces anxiety and worry about what’s next. Here are some of the most common and normal consequences of divorce:

You feel miserable; you also feel relieved

For at least several weeks, your moods may go up and down. On a good day, you feel relieved to be away from all those stressors and problems. On a bad day, especially when grief rears up, you question whether you did the right thing.

Your lifestyle has changed

The rented apartment, the tight budget. No more fancy dinners or vacations in the near future.........
