LETTER: P.E.I. should become the healthiest province
Like many other Islanders, I lost my family doctor. That was in 2019, when my plight was shared with 10,000 other Islanders. That list has now grown to over 30,000, despite politicians’ promises to eliminate the waiting list.

While 84, I am still in good health but still need access to a doctor for renewal of needed medicine for blood pressure control and issues with my prostate.
It’s a bit humiliating to have to stand in line on dark winter mornings, outside, to get access to a doctor, but it gives me plenty of time to think of alternatives.
Early on as a Green MLA, we were presented a vital statistics report that placed P.E.I. as one of the provinces with the poorest health. For instance we have more Type 2 diabetes and obesity here than elsewhere in Canada.
In another testimony to our legislature, it was stated that almost any ailment, even heart failure and joint replacement, would benefit from appropriate exercise. The implication being that the patient could improve his life and medical procedure outcome by simply moving, something anyone can do, without the help of doctors and pills.
