It began on a solemn note as the first order of business following the speech from the throne was a heartfelt tribute to Health Minister Mark McLane from all sides of the political spectrum. The Cornwall-Meadowbank MLA passed away just days before the sitting began.

Arsenault removed from post

During the 37-day session (which is long by P.E.I. standards), the premier lost two members of his inner circle. Following the first week of the sitting, Gilles Arsenault was removed from his post as environment minister following an investigation into his role in facilitating a $100,000 donation from the firm building the Ocean View Resort and Golf Course in Summerside.

The Evangeline-Miscouche MLA was also ejected from the Progressive Conservative caucus and now sits as an independent. He is under investigation by the RCMP and the conflict of interest commissioner and is now on a leave of absence after missing much of the legislative session.
