Rob Lantz was way off the mark and pandering a regional audience when he suggested the idea of a tunnel linking Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

Lantz made the remarks during a candidate forum ahead of the Feb. 7 PC leadership contest held in Kings County. He brought up the example of the Faroe Islands (they are a chain of Islands belonging to Denmark that, unlike Greenland, Donald Trump has made no mention of taking over).

Lantz noted the islands, which have a population of approximately 57,000 people, are connected through a series of 17 underground tunnels. What the Faroe Islands hasn’t got (and we do) is another permanent link.

The Confederation Bridge was built largely with the tax money of our fellow Canadians. For a province of less than 200,000 people to say “sorry, that’s not good enough, we’d like two permanent links please” is beyond the pale.
