The consequences of poor passwords can be devastating

In my last column, I gave some tips for creating complex passwords and how to manually record them and store the document in the cloud or use the risky autofill feature in your internet browser. This week, I go deeper into the subject.

Many people use a smartphone or tablet as their main computing device and there is a very secure way of storing all your passwords on the mobile device and in the cloud, and automatically inserting your login credentials when required.

On an iPad or iPhone, go into Settings, open your account section, then iCloud and make sure iCloud backup is turned on in the Passwords and Keychain section. In the main settings menu, scroll down and tap on Passwords and in Password Options turn on Autofill. Whenever you are at the login section of a website or app, a pop-up will ask permission to save the info and in future your login and password will be automatically inserted for that account.
