Working for a healthy environment
The Kawartha Lakes Stewards Association (KLSA) brought together representatives from many organizations interested in and working for the health of our environment at its annual spring meeting on May 24.
KLSA’s annual Lake Water Quality report, a highly regarded publication, was available at the meeting. It contains the previous summer’s e.coli test findings, phosphorus test results, reports on all of KLSA’s programs and many articles related to water quality.
Representatives of KLSA programs provided descriptions of their works as did representatives of the various organizations present. The e.coli samplers, KLSA volunteers, described their efforts. They test five times from July 2 to Sept 2. There are 65 sites, 14 on Kawartha Lakes — 30 per cent have zero e.coli.
KLSA’s Natural Edge Program covers all the Kawartha Lakes. KLSA sees shorelines as a critical link between land and water, playing an essential role in maintaining the health of our lakes. The group provides plants such as native wildflowers as........
