Construction of Buckhorn’s new burger restaurant underway
When you make pizzas that is what you do. You need another facility to provide hamburgers, chicken burgers, wraps, fries, and slushies among other things. That is what Endrit Karaj says pertaining to the building of the Buckhorn Burger Co. on the site of what was Karen’s Collectables behind the present Pizza Alloro.
Karaj renovated a former pizza restaurant on the site of what is now Pizza Alloro. He feels that he has developed his clientele, maintained staff through the difficult winter months and is ready to start that new restaurant.
Presently, the foundation is being built for this single story 1,550 square foot commercial space. Karaj says they will have the best Canadian Shield foundation ever. The cement has been poured between the pieces of Styrofoam. Great care will be taken in making it a well-insulated building to make utilities easier to pay. Parking will be available on the side of the building. Cooking equipment to be ordered will be preprogrammed for frying hamburgers or making fries.
Customers will find that ordering their food will be very much like it is at Pizza Alloro. There will be 18 seats inside and it’s hoped the building is finished in September or October when the cooking equipment will be installed. So final completion may be in November or December with opening in February of 2027. Staff hiring will be a major part of establishing this service to residents and visitors alike. An important goal of Karaj’s is maintaining staff during the slow winter months and still paying the bills. He likes to hire in February so that when spring turns into those busy summer months he is ready.
We will come back to visit the Buckhorn Burger Co. in November when the equipment is installed and learning how to use it is taking place. Maybe there will be a first hamburger available?
The Buckhorn District Lion’s Club in co-operation with Wesley United is excited to announce it is opening its long-awaited Food Pantry on April 30 at noon. With co-operation from many in Buckhorn the pantry is happening. A pantry is based on an honour system and has been very successful in Peterborough and many locations throughout Toronto. And, yes, there are many in Buckhorn who could use help feeding their families.
The pantry is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families in need are encouraged to visit the pantry at their convenience. There is no need to apply and no records are kept. Residents are encouraged to drop off non perishables at food drop off locations which will be set up throughout Buckhorn at such businesses as Home Hardware, Foodland and Flynn’s. There is no refrigeration, so only non perishables can be stored there. You are encouraged to spread the word to anyone who could use some help.
Please join them for the official opening on April 30 at noon at the Wesley United Church at the Curve Lake turn.
