Canoe Perspectives exhibit opening at Canadian Canoe Museum
The new Canoe Perspectives exhibit will open Thursday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at the Canadian Canoe Museum, 2077 Ashburnham Dr.
The exhibit will feature a selection of approximately 40 paintings from the McCreath Collection, a private collection covering a period of 200 years which represents the largest number of Canadian paintings featuring the canoe. Admission is included with general admission to the museum.
There will be works by Cornelius Krieghoff, William Armstrong, F.H. Johnston, David Milne, Alex Colville, Ken Danby, Illingworth Kerr and others. The paintings will be displayed with canoes and artifacts from the museum’s collection relating to the paintings.
“The paintings are presented alongside canoes and artifacts from our collection to provide additional context,” says Jaimie Eastabrook, marketing and communications manager. “The artifacts will help situate the canoe within the broader historical and cultural uses that are reflected in the artwork.”
