Pakistan’s crypto opportunity starts where adoption rankings end

Pakistan ranks third globally for crypto adoption, which makes a question more important than the ranking itself: What, exactly, has the country built?

Chainalysis places Pakistan second in retail activity through centralized services and third across broader centralized and institutional activity. Across APAC, received on-chain value climbed 69% in a year, from roughly $1.4 trillion to $2.36 trillion.

The adoption ranking establishes demand, which shifts scrutiny toward the depth of participation. Activity shows that people have found compelling reasons to enter digital-asset markets, yet it says far less about their ability to evaluate increasingly complex opportunities, manage risk as choices widen, or trust the infrastructure supporting that activity.

Pakistan’s next phase should be defined by how effectively it can turn broad participation into more sustainable and informed market engagement. Access remains essential, but access alone is no longer enough. As participation deepens, understanding and trusted infrastructure need to scale alongside it.

Access Can Scale Faster Than Understanding

The country’s bottleneck matters because digital assets already solve problems that traditional finance often handles poorly. In a young, mobile-first economy receiving roughly $35 billion in annual remittances, stablecoins can support payments, value preservation, and cross-border transfers. Digital-asset rails also give freelancers and other globally connected workers another channel for receiving and moving income.

Crypto enters through utility before portfolio theory. Once people move beyond that first practical use case, the market becomes far less intuitive.
