IN the vast and resource-rich landscapes of Balochistan, progress has too often been interrupted by cycles of violence. Operation Shaban, launched on July 5, 2026, by the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and Balochistan Police, emerged as a direct response to deadly attacks, including the assault on the Mangi Dam police post in Ziarat and incidents in Hanna Urak and other areas. These events claimed the lives of security personnel and civilians, disrupting daily life and stalling vital infrastructure work. From the viewpoint of peaceful development, this operation is not merely about eliminating threats but about reclaiming space for stability and growth that the people of Balochistan urgently need.

Balochistan holds enormous potential. Its minerals, strategic location and youthful population could drive economic transformation if security conditions allow. Yet recurring militancy has delayed projects in roads, energy and mining, leaving many communities on the margins. The recent attacks highlighted how fragile this equilibrium remains. By targeting militant hideouts in mountainous terrain through coordinated intelligence-based actions, Operation Shaban seeks to restore the conditions necessary for normal economic and social activity.
