Does this latest Edmonton Oilers injury news change GM Stan Bowman’s plans to keep his salary cap powder dry?

News broke on Wednesday afternoon that Matt Savoie and Frederik Andersen will both miss training camp after suffering injuries during “off-season training sessions,” the Oilers said in a statement. That will also be the case in the recoveries of Mattias Janmark and Alec Regula, who are on the bubble of making the roster at the moment.

OEG employee and host of Oilers Now, Bob Stauffer, mentioned how the penalty kill could be affected with these injuries.

“Matt Savoie (who took significant strides after the Olympic Break last season) and Mattias Janmark are both PK’ers,” tweeted Stauffer shortly after the news broke. “In theory the Edmonton Oilers have the cap space to look at potentially bringing in a current UFA with PK experience.”
