Will Devon Levi get the Oilers net after Jarry’s shaky start?

Well, that didn’t go well.

Tristan Jarry had a less-than-stellar performance in the season opener against the Vancouver Canucks. He let in six goals on 23 shots, finishing with a -3.51 goals-saved below expected. Edmonton dominated the game and should have won easily, but they needed a couple of key saves in the third period.

Is it time for 25-year-old Devon Levi to start? The Oilers are in win-now mode; they can’t have poor goaltending. Jarry looked like the goalie who has struggled since being traded to Edmonton. He had three good games last year, got injured, and never was the same. Eventually, Jarry lost the crease to Connor Ingram and is immediately on thin ice this season.

As training camp opened, Edmonton’s starting goaltender was asked how he could improve.

“I think it’s just a confidence thing,” said Jarry. “You want to be a part of every game, you want to start every game…but you obviously have to earn it, and I think throughout training camp and throughout the preseason games, that’s what has to happen.”
