Nottingham can't afford to lose out on much-needed rail improvements - they could have a huge impact

If I want to travel from Nottingham to go home and see my parents in the West Midlands on the train, I'm looking at a two-and-a-half-hour journey, with up to three changes and, more often than not, delays. If I took that trip via car, it would only take me an hour or so, depending on traffic.

And I know what you're already thinking: "Just drive home then". And, aside from the fact I don't drive, that's a reasonable point. But what about the millions of other people who travel to and from Nottingham throughout the year?

See, Nottingham and the wider East Midlands has got a lot to be proud of when it comes to public transport. Anyone who has ever used NCT buses across the city centre knows how easy and efficient they usually are.

Meanwhile the NET tram network offers commuters an alternative method of transport that many other places don't have, with access between the two universities, business parks, and various park-and-rides.

We've even got e-bikes across the city centre - something many other places haven't yet adapted. Depending on your outlook, that could be either a........
