Cancer survivor stabbed in the face with broken wine bottle 'thought she would die'

The victim, who had a mastectomy following a diagnosis of breast cancer, had been in remission and had gone out in Norwich "to celebrate the fact she had successful treatment".

Norwich Crown Court heard the victim had been in the Rosary Road area of the city at about 10.15pm when she heard Cherie Raby, who was with Daniel Marsden, call out to her.

Raby, now 47, who was holding a wine bottle, shouted out she heard the victim had been calling her a "crackhead".

The victim told Raby she did not know what she was on about but was told by Raby "I have a knife in my pocket".

When asked by the victim if she was going to stab her, Raby said she would "rather use a bottle".

John Clifford, prosecuting, said Raby went to hit the victim with the bottle but there was a "struggle" as the woman being attacked tried to grab it.

Marsden, now 35, then tripped the victim by "kicking the back of her ankles".
