Cordon remains in place after school stabbing as police patrols continue in area

Officers will carry out reassurance patrols at Thorpe St Andrew School and in the surrounding area over the coming days.

Police were called to the school in Laundry Lane at around 10.20am on Wednesday after a teenage girl was stabbed.

The school was sent into lockdown for around three hours and the girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Just over an hour later, a 15-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

He has since been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife on a school premises. 

The boy cannot be named for legal reasons.

A spokesman for Thorpe St Andrew school has now confirmed there will be a "continued presence of uniformed police officers" over the coming days.

“We continue to be in close contact with our families and have shared regular updates with them," he said. "Our priority continues to be making sure our students and our wider school community feel supported and cared for. 

“Thorpe St Andrew is such a tight-knit community and we are enormously grateful for the understanding and supportive response shown by everyone as we begin to process what happened.  

“We are working closely with the police and relevant safeguarding partners, who have confirmed that the school site and wider community are safe, and there will be a continued presence of uniformed police officers on and around the school site over the coming days to provide reassurance and support.”
