Why do we get achy legs - and what can we do about it?
I’ve written before about itchy legs and how irritating they are especially in bed. And of course, many people suffer from restless legs in the night too. But today, I want to focus on legs that feel tired, achy and heavy.
Some individuals develop aching legs while exercising. In fact, this happens even to professional athletes and dancers.
But I know several men and women who find the symptoms occur mainly when they are resting.
In other words, they can stride out for a three mile walk but when they’re watching TV of an evening, or go to bed, their legs give them trouble.
I suffer in this way sometimes, so this week I’ve been investigating why it happens and how to deal with it if it does.
The first thing to say is that if you are someone who has underlying health issues such as a heart condition, poor circulation, or varicose veins, you should check with your doctor that the pain is not a warning that something serious is wrong.
But if everything else is OK, there are ways you can help the situation.
It seems that aching, heavy and tired legs can happen to the fittest of us, and sometimes this is simply because we are doing too........
