Science breakthrough bolsters farmers' genetic defences against slimy crop pest
Researchers at the John Innes Centre in Norwich have identified parts of the wheat genome linked to resistance against the grey field slug, a persistent and damaging pest in arable farming.
The discovery is part of the SLIMERS project (Strategies Leading to Improved Management and Enhanced Resilience to Slugs), a three-year Defra-funded research collaboration led by the British On-Farm Innovation Network (BOFIN).
