Ambulance trust reveals plans to take fewer patients to hospital
The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) says taking every patient to hospital is no longer "the most effective approach".
It believes the change will allow it to deliver faster emergency responses for the sickest patients and help others to get the right care sooner.
And setting targets for the time staff spend at emergencies will mean crews work more efficiently.
But Donna Thomas, regional officer with the GMB union, which represents many ambulance workers, said: "EEAST have recently told ambulance staff to spend no longer than 42 minutes at Category 2 calls and have told staff that they will be monitored and performance managed against this time limit.
