The Government said the measure will apply to nearly 32,000 hospitality businesses across England and is expected to save a typical pub around £1,100 a year.

It said the package of support - worth £100 million a year - will be funded by stripping business rates reliefs from firms that “do not make a positive contribution to local economies”, such as vape shops.

The Treasury said it will also be funded by a “crackdown” on online businesses that avoid their tax obligations.

Online marketplaces, such as Amazon and eBay, could be held directly responsible for tax non-compliance among third-party sellers.

Emma Reynolds, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said the 20pc cut will be in addition to the 15pc reduction in rates for pubs and music venues introduced in April this year, as well as a two-year freeze in bills from April 2027.
