Former Rochdale midfielder Joe Thompson dies at 36
New Delhi: Joe Thompson, a former midfielder for Rochdale, passed away at the age of 36. Five years after he stopped playing, he received his third cancer diagnosis in April of last year. After twice recovering from stage four lymphoma, a form of blood cancer, during his playing career, it was discovered that the disease had migrated to his lungs. The player, who was born in Bath, played for Rochdale for three stints before ending his career there. Rochdale stated that they were “devastated” and he died quietly at home on Thursday, surrounded by his loved ones.
“We first knew Joe primarily as a talented footballer, but we would soon grow to adore his loving, infectious personality,” Rochdale said.
