Who is Cai Qi? Xi Jinping’s right-hand man accompanying him to India for BRICS 2026

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in India for the BRICS Summit accompanied by Cai Qi, one of the most powerful figures in China’s Communist Party. Known as Xi’s trusted aide and de facto chief of staff, Cai’s presence highlights Beijing’s focus on improving ties with New Delhi after years of border tensions.

New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit with Cai Qi, a senior member of the Communist Party’s Politburo Standing Committee and one of his closest aides.

China confirmed that Cai and Foreign Minister Wang Yi were part of Xi’s delegation. The visit is particularly significant as it marks Xi’s first trip to India in nearly seven years and comes amid efforts by New Delhi and Beijing to stabilise ties following the deadly border clashes.
