Dalit newlyweds barred from entering Karnataka temple, 1 arrested

A Dalit newlywed couple was allegedly prevented from entering a temple in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district and publicly humiliated. Police have registered an FIR under the SC/ST Act and detained one accused.

Tumakuru: A newly married Dalit couple was allegedly humiliated and forced to leave a temple in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district in what police are investigating as a case of caste discrimination. The incident occurred on February 19 at the Arasamma Temple in Goni village when the couple visited the shrine following their wedding.

According to the complaint, a man identified as Narayanappa, said to belong to an upper caste, allegedly obstructed their entry. Eyewitness accounts and video footage circulating........
