New Delhi: The Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM has announced Shifa ur Rehman as the party’s candidate from the Okhla constituency while MCD Councillor Tahir Hussain will contest from the Mustafabad seat. Hoping to emerge as the kingmaker in case of hung assembly, the AIMIM is planning to field at least a dozen candidates in the Delhi Assembly elections announced for February 5.

According to Shoaib Jamai, AIMIM’s Delhi Chief, the Delhi unit of AIMIM is in consultation with the Hyderabad based party president Owaisi and the names of some more candidates have been finalised for announcement in the next few days. The party is likely to target the constituencies with sizable muslim population like Matia Mahal, Seelampur, Karwan Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, Babarpur, Okhla, Ballimaran etc.
