Cyclone Montha warning: Heavy rain to lash Tamil Nadu districts today
Chennai: With Cyclone Montha strengthening into a severe cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued significant weather warnings for several districts in North Tamil Nadu. An Orange Alert has been specifically declared for Tiruvallur district, forecasting widespread very heavy rainfall as the system churns towards a projected landfall near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, tonight.
The cyclone’s influence is already being felt across the region, with the Northeast Monsoon delivering above-average rainfall. The IMD reports that 18 districts in Tamil Nadu have already received up to 57% more rainfall than normal this season. The impending landfall of Cyclone Montha, with wind speeds expected to reach 90-110 kmph, is now amplifying the weather threat, particularly for coastal and northern districts.
