Jensen Huang warns Huawei chips powering DeepSeek AI could be ‘Horrible’ for US dominance
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang warned that if DeepSeek optimizes its AI models on Huawei chips, it could weaken US leadership in artificial intelligence. He said China’s advantage in energy resources and a massive pool of AI researchers could offset weaker chips and accelerate innovation.
New Delhi: Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, has cautioned that having Chinese AI models being optimised on Chinese chips would be quite a blow to the United States. In an interview on the Dwarkesh Podcast, Huang remarked that it would be a terrible result should companies such as DeepSeek wholesale switch to non-American hardware and software ecosystems. His remarks are timed as the worldwide AI competition is getting tougher and the technological standards start to separate.
It is not only about the performance of the hardware. Huang pointed out that should the development of AI change to another tech stack in China, it would slowly transform the world standards. With AI becoming popular across the globe, he cautioned that systems led by China may become dominant, which will leave the US strategically disadvantaged.
