‘A homecoming for him’: Former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah to join BJP on Feb 22, says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Sarma termed the move a "homecoming" and attacked the Congress, claiming the party no longer represents mainstream Assamese and Hindu interests. "Joining the BJP will be like a homecoming for him because it is a party with many people like him, whose fathers did not occupy any high offices," Sarma told reporters.

New Delhi: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said former Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on February 22, following a meeting at Borah’s residence in Guwahati. The senior leader resigned from the Congress a day earlier in a massive setback for the grand old party before the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
