New Delhi: Bharat Ratna awardee Professor C.N.R. Rao, one of India’s best-known scientists, has reportedly been asked to appear for an electoral roll hearing in Bengaluru after a spelling mismatch flagged his name during the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, process.

The reason is surprisingly small. An older electoral roll records his name as “Prof. C.N.R. Rao”, but the current roll lists it as “Proff. C.N.R. Rao”. That extra “f” has resulted in a “self-name mismatch” notice for the 92-year-old scientist........
