‘India beginning a new relationship with China’: Sanjaya Baru reacts to SCO Summit

Baru said that the SCO Summit in Bishkek showed that India was more than willing to talk beyond just terrorism. According to him, India was beginning a new relationship with China. He explained that PM Narendra Modi himself attending the SCO Summit this time, showed that he was trying to better India's relationship with China.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid out a 10-point action plan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with security, connectivity and opportunity as its three key pillars. PM Narendra Modi attended the SCO Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and called for strong action against perpetrators of terrorism.

Sanjaya Baru, former advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, author, and a very noted economist joins Kartikeya Sharma, Managing Editor of News9Live, for an exclusive chat on India’s role in the SCO and how the organisation would impact the country.

Baru described the SCO as one more of the many plurilateral organizations of which India has been a member. He said that the Indian strategy for some time now has been to be involved in as many of these groups as are available to us, particularly in our region. The only group in which India has not been active is the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), he added. Otherwise we are in SCO, BRICS, ASEAN plus 6 and numerous others, he recounted.
