Can blockchain really solve India’s land dispute crisis?
New Delhi: In a compelling address to India’s Rajya Sabha during the Union Budget 2026-27 debate, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Raghav Chadha urged the government to revolutionize the country’s chaotic land and property records system by adopting blockchain technology. Speaking on February 10, Chadha highlighted the inefficiencies plaguing India’s property sector and proposed a National Blockchain Property Register as a tamper-proof solution to reduce disputes, fraud, and bureaucratic hurdles.
“Land records in India are in utter chaos,” Chadha stated in his speech, titled “The Good, The Bad, and The Way Forward.” He painted a stark picture of ordinary citizens navigating a labyrinth of registrar offices dominated by middlemen, where circle rates fuel cash deals, property tax leakages persist, and fake documents lead to endless encroachments and title disputes.
